When the customer becomes the architect of the transport system

The benefits of the uSky string-rail trasport flyover have been highlighted more than once in the materials:

  • low material consumption, low cost and low land use requirements;
  • high reliability, durability and safety;
  • high degree of integration into urban infrastructure in all landscape and climatic conditions.

Alongside this information you will often find another parameter — the span length. On the one hand, a larger span — means less intermediate supports and land allocation costs. On the other hand, larger spans increase the loads from the dead weight and rolling stock, so the number and tension of longitudinal (string) structural parts has to be increased to reduce deflection from the dead weight.

This is where string-rail flyover technology demonstrates absolute flexibility. By adapting to customer requirements, local architecture or landscape features, the company makes the transport system not just part of the urban infrastructure, but a landmark.

Modern or classic building design, passenger traffic, span sizes and much more are created in constant dialogue with the customer. And to confirm this, another look at the projects in the two research centres is required.

Test track No. 1 at the uSky Centre is a flexible track structure designed for low passenger traffic. This type of track structure with spans of 100 and 200 metres embodies structural minimalism in every component. Low string tension, compact design and ease of installation will allow the integration of such a transport complex even in a densely populated city.

Test Track No. 4 at uSky Centre is a semi-rigid track structure. An example of how heavy loads and large passenger traffic can be moved over long distances. Here, the balance of spans (144 m and 288 m), tension and the track structure own weight is implemented: no more than 300 kg per linear metre.

The rigid track structure in the EcoTechnoPark demonstrates the feasibility of the transport complex as high-speed and passenger transport. Intermediate supports are installed with 50 m steps. Short spans and the rigid truss structure ensure minimal deflection during passage of vehicles, meaning high flatness of track and comfort for passengers.

The EcoTechnoPark has implemented test tracks with semi-rigid and lightweight structures that have been in operation for more than 5 years. These tracks are used to practice speed limits, emergency situations and also provide demonstration rides for visitors.

The visualization below shows an example of an anchor support located in a dense urban area. It's not just an anchor support — it's a business centre with shops, offices, entertainment and recreation areas. Thus, the city gains not only a passenger station, but also commercial property. This kind of symbiosis saves significant space in the middle of urban development and improves the overall panorama of the city.

The tracks at the uSky Centre and the EcoTechnoPark — are not just test tracks. They are examples of how the group of companies is able to be flexible in its approach to customer requirements and wishes. It is a demonstration of how transport complexes are created in dialogue with urban infrastructure and nature.
