Who cares about the safety of the string transport?

Today, we will introduce you to the work of the design bureau «Calculations of Building Structures», whose responsibilities include calculations of track structure, intermediate and anchor supports, auxiliary connections, assemblies and accessories for track structure mounting. Roman Sharshov, Head of the Bureau, told us more about the tasks of the Design Bureau.

«At the moment, the design Bureau«Calculations of Building Structures» together with the Bureau «Engineering Calculations» is developing track structures that meet the requirements of the EN standard (international standard, which establishes the characteristics of products, operation, storage, transportation, sale and disposal, performance of works or services). EN design is not just a technical regulation, it is dozens of standards and requirements for technical parameters, aimed at achieving safety of all parts and components of the transport complex even during their design.

The results of the introduction of such a complex can be seen in the long run, but some progress can be assessed even now. During the test runs at the EcoTechnoPark, there is being collected not only data about the vehicles, but also analytical information about the work of structures – detectors and sensors are installed that monitor the movement of the track structure, the character of deformations and acceleration of track vibrations. Constant inspections of structures are being carried out for local phenomena, rail wear and tear. This information is being systematized, analyzed, and decisions are made on the need to make adjustments in the calculation and design of the following structures.

In the last two months, we have been analyzing and calculating a number of rigid track structures in order to find the optimal solution in terms of load-bearing capacity and endurance parameters, as well as structure construction technology. The specialists of our design bureau calculate both classical metal elements, units and joints, and complex composite structures, including prestressed ropes, concrete and prefabricated steel casing.

Calculations cannot be performed on their own, « separately» from all others, therefore, the work of the team of structural analysts is closely connected with the design bureaus of metal structures, reinforced concrete structures and the administration of the track structure in its entirety. The work is set up, and is carried out as efficiently as possible: any design begins with calculations, and we do this work, taking the concept into account, and bringing it in the process to an effective one from all points of view of design. Work is also underway in the mode of «service team» – checking decisions that the designers take on their own.
