The British University of Glasgow has published a ranking of the world's smartest cities. The list includes 28 cities. In the rating, Dubai is ahead of Los Angeles, Stockholm, Melbourne, Tokyo, Vancouver, Shanghai, Copenhagen, Beijing and Brussels, and is a leader among the cities of the Middle East and North Africa.
One of the reasons for the high position of Dubai in the ranking was the program for the automation of the transport system. The SkyWay string transport is to become one of its components. The representatives of the Dubai Transport industry < a href = "https://www.zawya.com/mena/en/companies/story/RTA_inks_MoU_with_Skyway_Greentech_to_develop_Sky_Pod_Network-ZAWYA20190212111823/"target ="_blank", stated that at the World Government Summit. Based on the SkyWay solutions, it is planned to form a new type of public transport – Dubai Sky Pods.
«The ranking of the smart cities was determined through how the cities addressed social, economic and environmental challenges through new technologies.
With all the new technology Dubai is planning or has already implemented, it is not that much of a surprise. For starters, Dubai is planning to make a quarter of all transport completely automated. The city is also expecting to have flying taxis by 2020, which means zipping across the sky will be part of the norm. It also revealed futuristic sky pods as a mode of transport, with a power efficiency that’s better than electric vehicles».
