Testing of a new method of anchoring string-rails has begun at the string transport production facility of the company developer. We are describing what this technology brings and how it has been tested.
What the challenge was
Now, the ends of the string rail are fixed by a device called a collet. The dimensions of this device do not always allow the anchoring node to be assembled in the right way. That gave rise to the idea of designing own way of anchoring.
What solution was come up with
General Designer Anatoli Unitsky suggested fixing the cable ends with a special clamp. This method will reduce the steel intensity of the anchoring nodes, reduce costs and simplify the installation of the structure. Such technology has never before been used in passenger transportation.
How the tests have been run
According to design engineer Dmitri Demeshchik, the clamp confirmed its design characteristics and the cable did not slip out. That means that this method of anchoring can be considered for fixing the rail on which the vehicle is moving.
The engineers, however, still have a few more tests to conduct. If the tests are also successful, the new anchoring technology will be used in the construction of string tracks.
