The students from Pandit Deendayal Energy University, India, have visited the String Technologies Testing Centre in Sharjah. The delegation included students specialising in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and other fields. The group was accompanied by Dr Pravin Kodgire, associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and founder of the Biofuels and Bioenergy Research Centre.
During the tour, the students were introduced to the flagship of the project - the high-speed model of the string transport, which can accelerate up to 500 km/h. The future engineers were also informed about the features of the string rail. As a reminder: it consists of several elements:
― Inside, there are bundles of prestressed steel wire that make the track resistant to loads.
― The bundles are protected from external influences by a steel casing, which also serves as a current conductor.
The guests paid special attention to the mock-up of the Linear City. The concept involves the construction of eco-friendly settlements with developed «green» energy and safe public transport.
It should be noted that the Testing Centre regularly organises excursions for young professionals. The Centre has previously been visited by students from Carthage University, as well as representatives from the Rubu' Qarn Fund.
