Representatives from Romanian development, construction and property buying company SDC Properties Group have visited String Technolgies Testing Centre in Sharjah.

SDC Properties Group has launched one of the largest real estate projects in Romania and south-eastern Europe — Transylvania Smart City. It consists of more than 10,000 housing units and around 40 apartment buildings with a population of over 30,000 people.

The Transylvania Smart City plans to provide high internal mobility with quick access outside the city through the introduction of safe public transport. This is the reason for SDC Properties Group's high interest in the string technology in Sharjah.

During the tour of the Centre, the guests were informed about the safety of the string transport, high standards of design and construction, and evacuation and towing systems. The reliability of the technology was proven by the recent certification by TUV SW.

To test the transport in practice, the visitors took a test drive in a certified Tropical Unicar to the service station, which includes the dispatch room with the world-class software and hardware.

In addition, the guests were shown a high-speed model of the string transport, which is designed to travel on intercity and international routes at a speed of up to 500 km/h. This vehicle was first unveiled at the InnoTrans exhibition in Berlin, and is now on display in Sharjah as part of EXPO 2020.

The representatives of SDC Properties Group also visited the company's office on the Centre's premises, where a mock-up of a linear city with five types of string tracks is on display.

The business people were particularly interested in the options for applying the technology on the routes between Transylvania Smart City and the airport, and between the airport and Cluj-Napoca city.

It should be noted that Cluj-Napoca is currently considering a project to build an underground metro that would connect the city with the airport. However, the technology presentation in Sharjah showed SDC Properties Group representatives that the string transport could be a more profitable solution because of the following advantages:

‒ The location of the string tracks above the ground makes travel on the route safer due to the low risk of collision with other vehicles.

‒ The supports of the string tracks take up minimum of space on the ground, allowing the technology to be adapted to any logistical task at speeds of up to 500 km/h.

‒ It costs less to build and operate a string track compared to a monorail, magnetic cushion train, surface and underground underground, express tram and cable car.

The tour of the Centre has impressed SDC Properties Group a lot. The guests expressed their desire to establish cooperation with the company developing the string transport in the UAE in the near future.
